There are two main categories of dogs: purebred and mixed breed. Purebred dogs belong to one of the 124 recognized breeds, which are further grouped into seven categories: hound, working, terrier, toy, sporting, non-sporting, and herding. On the other hand, mixed-breed dogs come in thousands of unique combinations. Each dog, whether purebred or mixed, possesses a distinct personality.

Dogs that were originally bred for specific purposes often retain certain characteristics related to their original functions. Training and patience may be required for these dogs to adapt to a household environment. While selecting a specific breed doesn’t guarantee particular behavior, choosing dogs from parents with desirable temperaments can increase the likelihood of finding an ideal pet.
